Why the modern church has gotten it wrong OR why you should wear your seatbelt.

The message of the gospel has been diluted by the modern church. We as Christians lure people in to “trusting” Jesus by promising them love, joy, peace, etc. without any reference to the law.
The law needs to referenced first to show how really lost we are. That’s gonna hurt people’s feelings. Christ did this with the young, rich ruler. After people see a need for a savior, then they will be overjoyed that their is said savior.

Take a seatbelt, for example. Let’s say that it was certain you were going to get in to a deadly car crash on your way to the store today. If I told you to wear your seatbelt because it’s comfortable and will make your ride in the car more enjoyable, you’d put it on but quickly realize that wasn’t true and take it off, endangering yourself. However, if I told you that it is certain you would perish in a horrifying crash, and the only way to save yourself is to put on your seatbelt, then you’d put it on and be happy that you did.

We as Christians certainly need to emphasize the joy that one gets by knowing that you're saved from the horrors of hell, BUT need to be careful not to essentially mislead folks in to trusting Christ in order to achive some sort of life magic. Christ promises that persecution will follow those that claim to follow him. That doesn't sound like the modern gospel, probably because it's not.

The Bible is a complete set of books. Neglecting the law when explaining Christ's sacrifice because it's uncomfortable just doesn't make good sense. There's no need for a cure, if you don't know you're sick. The ten commandments is a simple way to show that not one of us is good enough to make the grade, if you will, without Christ's sacfice.

I know this may make some uncomfortable, but it's the truth. Comment if you will, I appreciate everyone who reads this blog (all 5 of you!).
